Email Email Gardeners of Somerset Valley Wegarden.org June 2016 From: Mitch Greenbaum NEXT "MEETING": Wednesday, June 15, 6:30 Colonial Park Rose Garden
This Saturday is the Rose Day Festival at Colonial Park in Somerset, one of the great free events in our area with music, tours and most importantly an amazing display of colors and a chance to inhale all the delectable aromas. The only possible drawback is the huge crowds that come for this single day event. GOSV has decided to enjoy the roses still in peak bloom less the mob scene by having the June meeting at the actually named Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose garden. Did you know Rudolf (the designer of the rose garden) was also an original member of GOSV and that the first scholarship was in his honor? As many of you are aware there is also a lovely perennial section to view and some interesting trees nearby.
Dottie plans to bring soft drinks and suggests attendees take along a sandwich or snacks. She also wants to celebrate what would have been Jim Laubachís 100th birthday with an ice cream cake. Dottie is trying to get access to the park building and some extra chairs. She would appreciate an RSVP if you are planning to attend. The long term forecast calls for a comfortable evening perfect for a light stroll. There are some places you canít visit enough, one of them is the Colonial Rose Garden (156 Mettlers Lane, Somerset).
