                        Gardeners of Somerset Valley
January 2016 From: Mitch Greenbaum

NEXT "MEETING": Wednesday, February 17, 7:30 North Branch Reformed Church

Dear GOSV:

With the balmy December temperatures it seemed like plants especially weeds were going to survive the winter, now regardless of the weather, the 2015 season is finally in the books and time to prepare for 2016. Thinking about the digital age, gardening catalogues still represent one of the few pieces of junk mail that still provide anticipation and excitement when they arrive in the mailbox. Enjoy the beautiful photos, evaluate the new varieties and get ready for a brand new season.

There are only two pieces of business to mention. First, there wonít be a meeting in January. Instead prepare to reconvene on February 17 where you can look forward to a program on bog gardening and be pleasantly surprised to learn about interesting and colorful plants that can adapt to wet soil conditions, natural or manmade.

Secondly, itís time to collect dues with no change in pricing, $25 for a single and $35 per family membership. This is still one of the best values around offering diverse educational programs, parties, field trips and free plants and bulbs. Please bring your check to the February meeting or even better mail directly to Alice Swan at your earliest convenience.

Lastly, everyone seemed to enjoy the annual Christmas party in what has to be a perfect setting for a group our size and once again we extend a hearty thanks to Christine and Craig for sharing their home.

Happy New Year!
