The objectives of our club are: (a) to promote better gardening by instructing the members and public on gardening subjects; (b) to develop natural beauty in homes, community, and nation; (c) to cooperate with youth to teach appreciation of horticulture and develop gardening skills; and (d) to develop these objectives in the spirit of friendliness for better gardening in the local club, the region, and the nation.
Other club activities include: continuing support of its Rudolf van der Goot Scholarship for deserving students of horticulture and several gardens at the People Care Center in the Finderne section of Bridgewater. An annual geranium sale fund-raiser and memorial contributions finance these activities.
The club was organized January 25, 1984, as the Menís Garden Club of Somerset Valley. The current name, Gardeners of Somerset Valley, Inc. was adopted by the membership at the September 1993 meeting. The club is an affiliate of the Garden Club of NJ and meets at 7:30 P.M. the third Wednesday of each month (except July, August, and December) at the North Branch Reformed Church, Bridgewater, NJ, on Route 28 near North Branch.
Persons interested in gardening are invited to attend a meeting or to write Box 6171, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 for information.
Meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of the Month except for April when we have our annual dinner and the summer months: June through August.
